Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it?

my opinion is that we shouldn't trust the internet that big. not all of them are true, some of them are just thoughts from several peoples, but some of them are true. A reliable sources of article is needed if we want to trust an article on the internet, like if it is from a research company or is it just an opinion from peoples around the globe...

Absolutely not, because not every website in the internet are reliable. Information that comes from news website is the example that usually gives information base on facts e.g cnn.com, detiknews.com, kompas.com, bbc.com etc. But forums, blogs, or any other website that base on user or people information and thoughts were not reliable yet as long as they write or they put source that comes from any reliable sources.

Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it? If yes, why? If no, why? Discuss this in your own words. (aii)

well, in my opinion we must thinking twice about that. Because there some bad people made the 'truth' article but actually they made the article just for fun. I ever search the article from internet for my assignment, but there's something absurdly words from the article and i almost believe the article, then i ask my friend, is that the article correct? and my friend said no, the article really really spoof article, and after that i never believe article from internet. If have to search article from internet maybe i will ask my friends before or my lecture.

so i disagree to take article or everything without thinking much before i decide. We need make sure before we take wrong decision.

In my opinion, we must thinking twice. Do not always believe on what is in internet today. Because out there some bad people use internet just to make controversy. For me, myself, i never trust what internet says, if it is first time i see the information, and i will "googling" to get more information that related to the first information, just to make sure it is true or not. If i found there is many information related to the first information that i get, and the other information supporting the first information, than i believe it. But if, other information supporting, but my logical thinking does not believe it and i don't believe it.

Never trust everything on internet before you get other information that supporting what you see there. Actually, these day, internet can be use to make provocation. So we need to make sure that everything that we see in internet is true or not, before we take a wrong decision.

I think we must thinking twice before believe the truth about what internet says or the information within it. Actually I often believe what internet says, but I have to compare it with the same information from another source. It make me not so fast to believe but make me critically think and try to make the differences within the right information or fake information.

This is my review for this topic. Summary I often believe what internet says but I have to think twice to find or to know the truth about those information.

Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it? If yes, why? If no, why? Discuss this in your own words.

I don't think people care about the truth at all, or at least they don't expect to find it from a blog. The truth is sort of subjective anyway, if you think about it. I mean I could find facts that back up what I say anywhere. it's about business and marketing in the age of the internet, but it's exactly what you're talking about here. The internet (and specifically bloggers and readers/commenters on blogs) has opened up the fast lane for calling out BS. This doesn't necessarily reduce the amount of BS out there, but it levels the playing field in terms of percentages. More truth is brought to the front faster. Maybe not as fast as the BS, but the more bloggers are called out and questioned, the more they have to step up with honesty, credibility and support for their claims to maintain their status.

But I honestly do hope that the future does bring some more truth to the internet for the mere fact that so many people naively accept everything they read without thinking twice about it.

From your personal experiences and research, what other media stereotypes have you seen either on TV, magazines or in the movies? (Ikhwanul Asikin)

i have read a stereotype from megazine "TIMES".the klimaks that told us about racist in South Africa. they had been engangged by Whites. and the south african cityzen didn't want it..
so they make a movement to have an awaking for freedom from the whites. that movement was leading by a man from south african...he is Nelson Mandela..

From your personal experiences and research, what other media stereotypes have you seen either on TV, magazines or in the movies? (Joffi Marcaesar)

I've watched one movie called "My name is Khan" The movie tells us about Moslem people who lived in the United State. After the incident of 911 which cause the destruction of the Twin Tower in America it also effects the "whites" people in America by judging every Moslem whom currently live there to be dissociated.
This example has taught people who have watched it to be aware of Moslem, whereas it is not true that all Moslem are terrorists.

From your personal experiences and research, what other media stereotypes have you seen either on TV, magazines or in the movies?

The movie Hairspray is one of a example of the racial and ethnic stereotypes that the media and entertainment industry use to portray black and white skinned peoples.

The movie Hairspray by Adam Shankman shows how the black skinned peoples in America are disgraced by the white skinned peoples, they treat them different in many ways by assessing them as a cruel and barbaric being. But in the end everything turned out different, everything is accepted as one big family.

this movie shows that not all of them are bad, even some white skinned people could be more cruel than them. the important thing is racial discrimination is a bad thing, and it shouldn't be accepted.

From your personal experiences and research, what other media stereotypes have you seen either on TV, magazines or in the movies?

Prince of Persia an action-adventure video game franchise created by Jordan Mechner. Through the various titles, the series has been developed and published by many different companies from the year of 1989 until now. (Wikipedia.org). This game is played by every children, teenagers until adult, and I also played it too. :)
I think this game is show us about the struggle of the prince from Persia to take back his throne as a next king. So it show us about the heroic action not a barbaric action.

I think the Arabic people is not a terrorist that many media talked about it. But it maybe the media has play it's role to tell us or inform us about this news or information. But sometimes we have to not listen to media if the news or information given is not right. So this is my review for this topic.
Thank You

From your personal experiences and research, what other media stereotypes (besides the example from the documentary "Reel Bad Arabs") have you seen ei

Walt Disney's animated film, Aladdin, a huge box office success in 1992 which was seen by millions of children around the world. In the opening song we hear, "I come from a land, from a faraway place where the caravan camels roam, where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face. It's barbaric, but hey, it's home."

Or see, for example, the racism in Rules of Engagement in which a bloodbath among demonstrating civilians in Yemen caused by US soldiers is justified, because an investigation shows that the dead women and children themselves started the shooting. The seriously injured little girl with whom we initially sympathise is hereby transformed into a terrorist too.

Blogger and journalist (Joffi Marcaesar)

Blogger and journalist both are a person whom usually write about something, it can be their own thought or sharing any information. The difference is that blogger are giving opinion and sharing with people around blog users, and journalist is more serious writer and basically they write something to give information to people base on fact.

Explanation between blogger and journalist

Sometimes there is a question "Is that same between Blogger and Journalist?"
well, basically, blogger and journalist are in the same area. Both of them are trying to inform the readers. However, there is some aspects that we cannot say blogger and journalist are same.We will discuss it separately.

In the few last years, blogging has become a universal phenomenon in which everyone has felt free to express themselves, air opinions, promote themselves and, by extension, their products and services. In blog, blogger can share anything. They can share about products, service, or maybe they just share about the story. In this context, bloggers have the freedom to write only what we want and we like it, without liability to serve any audience or advertisers. Independence which is certainly not owned by the journalists who work on a media. Writing about blog is based on her/his hobbies to write about something and share to someone. We cannot find this factor on the Journalist.

Meanwhile, journalist have received professional education and training, have responsibilities, have certain skills, and have certain inherent traits assumed about their conduct. journalists have a very big responsibility on what they convey, and they write. They must write the true story of what was happening. The difference between journalists and bloggers is that bloggers write about something without any kind of wages and only on the basis of pleasure. But another case with a journalist, they get the wages about what they made based on the writings and some of journalists do this is not based on fun as a blogger.Journalists are also protected under the law and the applicable laws of the country and they have a code of ethics for a news story. But, this context cannot be applied in the bloggers.

In the conclusion blogger and journalist is not same. The differences of these materials are about the feeling of happiness to write the article and the other one is the purpose of writing the material is a job or hobby.
Thanks for the attention :)

ARE BLOGGERS JOURNALISTS? (agung cahyandaru)

writing a blog is like writing a journal, but its more about personal business or opinions. bloggers usually use it as personal use such as daily journals, assignments, shoping advertisements, or even just to share some opinion to discuss on. so you can't call them journalists.

journalists are more like a reporter, they write things for the public and they provide new references for people. A journalist writes information about current events that is happening around, new trends, and interesting issues.

The main purpose of a journalists is to serve the public. they write for the newspapers or magazines. so anything that a journalists write must have some quality informations, knowing that the public mostly relay on it.

Are Bloggers Journalist? (Dimas Isnain W)

Are blogger journalist?

According to the wikipedia.org blogger is a person who write a blog or weblog. And blog is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. And journalist is a person that collects and disseminates information about current events, people, trends, and issues. All of this is from wikipedia.org.

But I think they are different job or activities. A blogger can make a writing according to their own idea and their own will to write, and they are not limited by law. So they can freely write and share with people in the cyberworld, but they don't have protection by law too.
A journalist is someone who makes writing based on his job as a writer who worked in a mass media such as newspapers, televisions, magazine, radio, etc. So they have protection by law but they can't freely write because they are linked by ethics in journalism.

So bloggers isn't a journalist. :)

Dimas Isnain W (1092700710)

Are Bloggers Journalist? (Muhammad Asha Gayuza)

I think Journalist and Bloggers are different. Well, based on dictionary.com Journalist is a person that write for any of the public news media, such as newspapers, magazines, radio, television, or internet. Journalist usually work for media in periodical time. Blogger is a person who keeps and update a blog, usually blogger update blog with information and news, but there is some people use blog as their online market to sell products and online media for musician to share their music and opinion.

Journalist and Bloggers are different, sometimes bloggers get information from journalist and put the information in their blog so people can get the information. They are different but they have same goal : to share information to other people.

Muhammad Asha Gayuza 1071112068

Are Bloggers Journalist? (Ikhwanul Asikin)

Are Bloggers Journalist?
hmmmm....
i think they're different. althought, a blogger can give informations or share a thing.

Basicly journalist meaning is a person who collects and disseminates information about current events, people, trends, and issues. His or her work is acknowledged as journalism. and blogger is a blog storage service that allows private or multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It is funded by on-screen ads. or the other meaning is a person who have a blog, and post somthing into their blog, it's called a blogger.

so we can make a differensial between journalist and blogger, althought both of them kindly gave information to public.

Ikhwanul Asikin - 1092700693

ARE BLOGGERS JOURNALISTS? What is your take on this?

I think journalists often overlook the fact that the physical paper is an information appliance that does not critically depend on stories to create a good customer experience.

I think it would help, if “readers” were replaced by”viewers” when thinking about news-on-paper. Very few people read most of the stories in printed newspaper. In fact, very few people make the time to read anything. In any case, the viewer-to-reader transition is very similar for the web and print.

The difference is based on the nature of the media. They search the web. They scan print.

If something catches their interest, they stop, read the subhead. If still interesting they read the lede. If still interesting, they read the next paragraph. It’s less trackable than the same activity on the web, but in it’s fundamentals, they are both a series of micro decisions in the form of “go or no-go.”

The magic moment is when a viewer stops making those micro decisions. Instead they are “carried along” by the story itself. It’s how I think about the “timeless” experience created by great stories.

The advantage of print is that the words and pictures are still there when the viewer next has time to engage. It also makes it much easier for non-path defined scans. Let’s say that the cost of engagement is measured by viewer attention given. In that sense, the cost of engagement with print is much lower than the cost of engagement with the web. It’s easier to scan then it is to search

The disadvantages of print have been well described in terms of money, collaboration and speed. If we get past the “baby and bath water” situation, it will be easier to use the advantages of both print and web, so that 1+1 can equal 3.

Ikwanul Asikin (1092700693)

Social media is best understood as a group of new kinds of online
media, which share most or all of the following characteristics:

Participation
social media encourages contributions and feedback from everyone who is
interested. It blurs the line between media and audience.

Openness
most social media services are open to feedback and participation. They encourage
voting, comments and the sharing of information. There are rarely any barriers to
accessing and making use of content – password-protected content is frowned on.

Conversation
whereas traditional media is about “broadcast” (content transmitted or distributed to
an audience) social media is better seen as a two-way conversation.

Community
social media allows communities to form quickly and communicate effectively.
Communities share common interests, such as a love of photography, a political issue
or a favourite TV show.

Connectedness
Most kinds of social media thrive on their connectedness, making use of links to other
sites, resources and people.

Social Media (Dimas Isnain W)

I think social media is one way for everyone to be able to communicate with others without any limitation of space and time. Because today's so many ways to communicate with others without having to come face to face directly. Such as using a Messenger, email, cellphone and even now can change any function of a computer. With many models issuance of the latest smart phone, we do not need to bother to bring a laptop to work.

So many ways from a social media to serve as a facility or means of communication. And to become a social media should not from a company or a large company because each person can create or make a social media itself, of course with the help of the latest technology and imagination or creativity of each individual.

Dimas Isnain W (1092700710)

Social Media ( aii )

Discuss how this new "Social Media" phenomenon is affecting your life and the lives of the people around you. Real-life examples would be good.

According to the about.com Social Media is a type of online media that expedites conversation as opposed to traditional media, which delivers content but doesn't allow readers/viewers/listeners to participate in the creation or development of the content.

During 21st century, there are many social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and Friendster. Even the video websites are also the social media. In my opinion, Social media is the best way to communicate to other friends. We can find something new that we don't even know before. Just a few years ago, social media has found some briliant idea to make a communication between two people with a different area. They can see each other, and it looks like they can talk nearly without any obstacle. They called as Webcam. This idea is so amazing for me. Now, i can talk and interact with my parents in Indonesia. Not only them, but also any friends which is in the overseas.

But with all the positive things that webcam had, there are a negative impacts of that program.
One of the research in the U.S, teenager can do everything that they want in the webcam. They can do bad things with someone else. For some reason, they said it was just for fun, unfortunately, it makes a new problem. In the webcam we can get a screen capture, then it becomes a picture. With that picture, someone will upload it to the adult website. In the next, they will appear in that site.

The Negativity of Social Media (Agung Cahyandaru)

Today it seems like many of us are using some form of social media to share our personal lives with friends/family and/or help spread the word about our growing business. many people uses social media and the web to share is thoughts, feelings and life experiences. However, but not all of them have positive reflections, but rather a very public bashing of the unsatisfactory service.

Someone could use one of the social media such as youtube to show the negativity of someone, something, or even a company. by turning it into a joke.
What does this mean for businesses? Businesses are no longer able to take advantage of their customers, because customers are now fighting back more publicly than before. This public exposure could give a negative view to almost everything

Agung Cahyandaru (1092700711)

Social Media (Joffi Marcaesar)

Social media is a media that crated to help us in communicating, sharing, or giving information one to another no matter how far. There are so many kinds of social media that has widely used by people in the world, from instant messenger, blogs, social network websites, and also email. This modern social network revolution has brought so much ease and benefits to us.

In my experience, social media has a lot of contribution in my life. The distance between me and my families or maybe my friends that spreads around Indonesia, Australia, or even Greece, got narrowed down by the sophistication of social networks like; facebook, skype, and email.

In conclusion, Social media is important and a high beneficial change in this era.

Social Media (Yuza)

Social media is an interaction and communication way for people to get and give information. Nowadays, most people communicate using media in online form. It is because we can use internet everywhere and every time using our mobile phone or notebook. So easy to get information from internet. Most people use Social network sites, Forum, Blogs, E-mail as their way to communicate to each other.

These are some examples of people using social network sites, blogs, forum, instant messenger, e-mail as a media to interaction and communicate.
Let's see, right now my room mate chatting with his Girlfriend using Instant messenger(i know not because i am a stalker, because he told me.. hehe). In other room in my house, my friend write a comment to his friend profile in social network site(this time i stalking, hehe). And right now i just get a message from my friend in twitter, she said that she is on her way to her house at tebet. Some people use blog as their online shop to sell things to other people. My bestfriend sent me an e-mail about a secret gigs this month, sadly it is in Indonesia so I can't come.

Social Media has been around for a long time in many different form, it is so important for us to learn it, because social media can affect many thing in our life. Social media can affect people lifestyle, political view etc.

social media

Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques.
for example . Social media websites have been around for a number of years now. Without you even knowing about them they are there. we may have even used such sites long before the Facebook and Twitter.

Social media websites and networks come in all sorts of forms. From web forums to social blogs, instant messaging to emailing. However, the term ‘social media’ has only been around since about 2004, when LinkedIn launched their social network application and the term has stuck and has gradually risen since. Now there is even a whole new market for social media marketing, that I am proud to say I’m apart of.
